While there are many brands and models of Wire EDM machines available today, the three most prominent manufacturers are Elox, Japax, and Mitsubishi.
While each of these companies manufacture similar products, there will always be some varying features such as the User-interface with the CNC controller, the numbers of wires, be it a 4-axis or 5-axis Wire EDM machine, type of electrical current (AC vs. DC), and the gauges of wires that can be used. Another very big difference will be the size of the tank in which the manufacturing is accomplished. Read the rest of this entry »

CNC Wire EDM is electrical discharge machining. This machine works around electrical discharges, electrical “sparking” actions and electrically conducting materials. The CNC Wire EDM machines offer ultra high tolerances and precision that no other CNC machine can match. If you need that specific part designed that is an exact fit to within microns, the CNC Wire EDM machine will get it closer to perfect than any other CNC machine.
Most of the time CNC Wire EDM machines are kept in positive air flow rooms that are temperature controlled. The machines are more like clean rooms than an actual machine shop. The environment that these machines work in help to push the machine beyond the manufacturer’s intended limits and the operators can squeeze even more precision out of it.
Computer numerical controlled technology has definitely become a driving force in the machining industry. The machines that have been developed from the use of this technology, in combination with robotic technology, make the sky the limit in the machining industry. No other CNC machine can prove this like the CNC Wire EDM machine. Read the rest of this entry »

Wire EDM services are not exactly new technology. The concept was originally discovered in the 1770′s by an English Scientist. It was not until the 1970′s that EDM was commercially developed, and in the 1980′s began to be distributed and utilized through the world of machine shops.Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is an electro thermal production process that removes metal in a very precise manner by harnessing the heat of an electrical spark. Read the rest of this entry »

Electric discharge machining (EDM) is a manufacturing process whereby a desired shape is obtained using electrical discharges (sparks). Material is removed from the work piece by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes, separated by a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage. One of the electrodes is called the tool-electrode, or simply the ‘tool’ or ‘electrode’, while the other is called the work piece-electrode, or ‘work piece’. Wire Edm Read the rest of this entry »
